Welcome to my blog page. My site will update from time to time. You may on occasion see items rearranged or removed. So don't think you're going "crazy". I am still learning to navigate within the blog world.

My knitting experiences have been very slight. I have only been knitting about four years. Learning the "ropes" and "ins and outs" of knitting from my mom who has been knitting for over 50 years. I have had the privilege of having many talented women and men teach me their "tricks of the trade". They have been generous and patient with me as I learn this craft.

You might wonder why its taken so long for me to catch the "bug" of knitting, but until recently it occurred to me that this long lived art would die with my mom as she is the only one of three siblings who can knit and crochet. So in order to keep the tradition alive and hopefully pass this on to future generations in our family, I ventured out on this new journey and chapter in my life.

There are many knitters out there so willing to help "newbies" along this expedition of knitting. Along the way, I have been able to impart some new techniques, skills and information to my 80 year old mom. I've been able to introduce her to fabulous fibers as well. . . . .

Who said "you can't teach an old dog new tricks?!"

Austin's Hat

KnitPicks 100% Wool knitted using US #3 & 5 Needles using two strands of two different variegated multicolored yarn. The hat came out really nice and comfy! From Louisa Hardings book Hats Gloves and Scarves.

Linda's Hat

Cloche Hat knitted in Berroco's Ultra Alpaca in Black on US # 5 and 7 Needles. This is such an easy and fun hat to make. The yarn has a good feel and doesn't split! I hope Linda will like her hat!

Kylie My Calico and Angora Hat

I had to share this with all of you. Last night while watching the news, my cat, Kylie, was making lots of noise. Now you must understand Kylie thinks she is a 'dog'. She is 17 pounds of pure cat and love. She is very 'needy' and loves to be on my lap such as a lap dog!!

Well, going back to last night, I hear this commotion and figure she is just playing around on the stairs, etc. Well she finally made it to where I was, and I noticed she had something in her mouth. At first I got a little worried thinking 'mouse' but upon closer inspection she was carrying my very white 100% Angora handknitted hat that was just washed and rinsed this past weekend!!!! I ran to her only to realize that was the wrong thing to do! She ran w/hat in tow. I finally got the hat out of her mouth and my beautiful Angora hat was so dirty and full of cat hair that I just wanted to scream!!!!

I immediately tried using the lint roller on it to no avail and so dumped it in the colander and sink and proceeded to wash and rinse, wash and rinse, wash and rinse my beautiful Angora!!!

Well, it is still drying and I have no idea how clean it will be. Kylie is so smart and ingenious! The hat was in my tote bag neatly put away, but somehow Kylie got hold of it. I guess she thinks its a 'rabbit' and it must still have the scent of the rabbit in its fur.

Will let you know how the wash and rinsing of my hat turns out. . .

PS: Kylie was quite content to have killed her prey.

Cats and Dogs

I am quite blessed to have a husband who indulges me to no end. Our dog rescued a tabby cat with three kittens, all grown at this point. There were three females and one male, but the male cat ran away. The others have stayed. We have been successful in domesticating one of the three kittens, pictured below named Scratcher, plus the mother cat. We managed to spay all three female cats (Mommy Cat, Scratcher Face and White Face) and care for them daily. Two live with us while the third one (White Face) refuses to be housebroken. Doesn't matter to us, we still care for her and look for her daily to be sure she is safe and sound. We have a doghouse outside under our balconey so she is sheltered from the snow, rain and sleet. During the winter months we use a heating bowl for her water and put lots of blankies in her doghouse so she stays warm and dry.
